I had a bike a few years ago and had a full helmet. I've since bought a new bike and so a good excuse to buy a new helmet. I went with the half helmet this time. I've found that the wind catches under the helmet and slides it back on my head. the strap tightens to the point of chocking me to death and makes the ride miserable. I just can seem to tighten the strap enough to stop this from happening. is there something I can try? I pulled down on the strap as I rode and I thought if there was some kind of 2'' by 4'' bad that slid on the strap to, 1 keep it tight and 2 not allow it to chock the life out of me. is there such a thing? then I thought how does everyone else do it?
I had the same problem with my first half helmet. I added some foam inserts from a bicycle helmet to tighten up the fit on my noggin. It worked great. Any bicycle store that sells helmets will sell them. They're just foam pieces with velcro on the back.
When it came time to buy a new half helmet, I made sure that it was very tight. It still moves around a bit. If it's choking you, it's probably too big for you.
I was going to get one size bigger when I bought mine but was advised that the padding will loosen up. Just have to make sure it's on in the right position.
This happened with my first half helmet that had the mushroom head look. It would choke the living **** out of me even though the helmet fit me perfectly. It did not move on my head, but caught the wind like a parachute. Then I bought the ACC helmet and can fly down the freeway at any speed. I can hardly tell its on my head because of the great aerodynamics.
