I do believe that that is in fact the origin of the tradition of wearing a German WWII helmet.
The novelty helmets are not DOT approved, I got pulled over once in Royal Oak MI. and the police officer asked me to take my helmet off and he checked to see if I had all of the warning labels and the DOT sticker on my helmet. I met two other guys that same night at bike night in downtown Royal Oak that got tickets for having a fake stickers on their helmets and no warning labels inside the helmets.
So with those helmets how bad is the wind. I was thinking of getting one since it is wider and flares out compared to my beanie. I run with my short windshield on my RG and can't hear myself think because of the wind with the beanie is so bad. Does anyone have experience using one with a short or no windshield? If so does it stop the wind whining at highway speeds?
