Got one of the DOT-Approved "OUTLAW" brand helmets from LeatherUp.com (the same that a lot of websites sell for ~$30.
DO NOT BUY the "Outlaw" brand helmet - they don't look like they do in the pic.
The padding comes down about an inch outside the helmet causing the helmet to sit on top of your head and look completely retarded.
I liked the look and style of the helmet, but they don't fit like the Novelty helmets at all. Don't come anywhere close to covering the ears, they sit on top of your head and don't seem like they'd even help in a crash (yes, i did order the correct size, the fit and finish of the helmet is just crappy).
I guess you get what you pay for with a $30 helmet.
ANYONE KNOW OF A DOT "German-style" helmet that actually looks good and sits down normally on your head..???
(I'll take pics before i return the helmet to show y'all what i mean.)
The Suzuki Boulevard rider took a pass on the German Helmet. He eventually ended up going with some buds to Sturgis, riding his 850cc Boulevard. (Some 2500 miles round trip.)
This past weekend he flew out to Lubbock and rode his '08 StreetGlide home.
I would never wear that kind of stuff out of respect for all of our vets that gave so much in that war.
If my Father were still alive and he seen someone riding a Japanese motorcycle with a German helmet regularly riding in our neighborhood, I'm afraid that there would soon be piano wire strung across the street. He lost too many of his relatives, friends and buddys while he proudly served under Patton during WWII. Yea, I know he fought for such freedoms but to him, that would be to far "over the top".
You can always tell them that it is an authentic WWII helmet taken from a dead German soldier.
I do believe that that is in fact the origin of the tradition of wearing a German WWII helmet.
That's correct. Many soldiers returning from WWII wore the German helmets as war trophies. I don't understand wearing one in 2009. To me, it would look like someone who is just falling in line with a fad...and really trying too hard. To each his own tho....
In respect to my father and other vets who fought against the axis powers in WWII, I personally choose not to wear anything that remotely resembles a German helmet. I can't imagine any modern-day American soldier returning home and wearing a turban, trophy or not.
