I may be in the minority, but I think a helmet is a worthwhile investment. I mean, you can't really put a price on your safety (and your head).
For example, I only buy SNELL approved helmets.
My last investment was in a Shoei RF-1000 in the Caster TC-5 paint scheme. Spent about $400 on it. It looks awesome, incredibly comfortable and is one of the safest helmets on the market.
I can't stand my ACC/Headtrip...its ok around town but 50 mph+ it floats and chokes....no thanx! IMO its $180.00 in the trash can...only plus is the customer servive. But hey is Custo-Serv. worth $180.00 HELL NO!
I returned mine for the recal 09' and got it back (new) and it still to this day collects dust...selling it has crossed my mind several times...
I really like the Head Trip helmets but at $190 a piece, am just wondering if anyone has found something very similar that isn't so pricey. I like how low profile they are. Just checking before I drop that kind of cash on one. Yeah, I know, my head should be worth it. I've been riding in a Fulmer half for the past three years but coming home from our latest road trip it drove me nuts. The padding has settled or something and it kept riding back on my head and cutting into my forehead so it's time for something else and I still want a DOT helmet. Thanks for any input.
It don't matter anyway.Head trip doesn't have the material to make the Helmets & they don't know when it will be availble!!! There is something fishy going on over there!!! maybe going bankrupt????How can a business not be on top off a supplier???? Good luck trying to find one!!! I found a dealer in Florida that had some in stock!!!! http://www.carbonfiberbikerhelmets.com
I found what I wanted and the price as well on MC Superstore - BUT - most of their halfshell helmets say "meets or exceeds DOT specs" and have no sticker on them. A few, including this one, do have the sticker. I assume when it says "DOT certified", it means it has the sticker, even tho there is no back view of it.
As for fit, they have letter charting instead of inch sizing, so it's a crapshoot - I let them know about it too. No box came up for me to put in my actual size or anything. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...id-Helmet.aspx

You just need a wing on top of your helmet to hold your head down. Are you on the recall on ACC helmets.

proper labeling of the helmet is part of the DOT cert, so if it's "DOT" it has to be labeled per their reg's (inc. sticker on the back under the clear)
I think AFX is the same as HCI & the HCI's are cheaper here (link below). Just labeled for each distributor. The HCI 100's failed the DOT test in 06-07 because they didn't have the proper warning label inside the helmet. All else passed & the labels have been corrected since.

I get that, but it looks like a sales gimmick saying that it meets DOT "specifications" instead of saying it is DOT certified. And I didn't see stickers on those that said that.

The helmets were found to fail all three DOT tests. you can call them and get a return label, send the helmet back with proof of how much you paid and receive a full refund. The info is on their website.
