You won't notice much difference in the handling...just a whole lot more comfortable.

Yeah... "Mini-Apes"... pffft. No idea why Harley decided they needed to change the name of hi-rise, pull back barsk to mini-apes. I suppose if you buy drag bars from HD, they'd be "Flat-Apes".

I just don't get running 16's, 18's... Having ridden a few bikes with apes, I can honestly say "real comfortable" never popped into my head.

I still have this visual of some guy parking his bike, going into the house where his table is set up the same way, and eating soup - reaching up to the bowl, and it all spilling out of the spoon on an to his face as he tries to get it down to his mouth.

As for feeling like you're sitting in a recliner. If I want to sit in a recliner, I'd much prefer to do it in my living room, not at 80 mph on the interstate. ... but then, maybe if I raised the arm rests on my recliner up to shoulder height or higher... ;-)

I have good input. Do everything with your hands above your head, and then decide how "very comfortable" it is.

As for you being an anti-ape hater - why even reply to my post?

(have you even had a pair)
No. I also don't own a pair of ladies shoes with 6" inch heels - but I can assure you, I'd not find them "very comfortable". I have ridden others bikes with apes, and found nothing comfortable or natural about it.

... but if YOU like them, have at it man.

LMAO!

I went from chimps to 16" apes and found them to be more comfortable. No more aching in my neck on longer trips.

5'11" here and my 18" apes are just below my shoulders...I have the 12" pullback which I feel is too much with a fairing on my Road King. I am looking at getting gangsters as they have a slight forward curve which will move my hands just enough forward...mine are great with the fairing on but when I remove it I want my arms stretched out more...

Had the mini-apes put on my 09 fatboy before I even picked it up. Much more comfortable than the stock fatboy bars were.

I'm almost 6' 2". On my bike, the 16's are at or just slightly below my shoulders (lower seat).

I agree with cowboy. If I were to do it again I'd get the gangsters. I wish my arms were a bit more stretched out as well. I could kick the bars forward a bit more but then I couldn't get my windshield on. The only time I use the shield is on long trips when traveling the freeway.

Don't worry about the difference in handling. After about an hour riding you will be used to them. And you will like them. I'd go with at least 14" apes. I had the mini's and just had to go higher. I have 16" Wild Ones Chubbies and I likes them. How I sit at my table or computer has absolutely nuttin to do with my riding but if I could mount handlebars to my desk they would be apes too.
