I had occasion to be in Idaho the other day, where helmets are optional. Probably 90% of the riders I saw had no lid, the other 10% were mostly from out of state. Of the 90% unprotected brains, 80% were riding in full leathers. My question is; if you're going to wind up a vegetable or worse, why worry about road rash. Granted I'm a noob here and haven't seen all the threads dealing with helmets, but two years ago the wife and I went down hard (07/07/07). Without my full face, I would now have a prosthetic chin. I definitely believe in the right to choose, but why bother with leathers without a lid?
Eh well, just because you go down doesn't mean you are gonna crack your melon. However, chances are pretty good you are gonna get road rash. So much for your position on this subject. Secondly, leathers are for staying warm as well. Since you believe in the right to choose, why bother to bring it up?
I wasn't aware that every crash resulted in instant vegetation... Fact is, I don't wear a helmet, chaps or leathers (unless it's under 50 degrees) I'd rather die doing what I love than living in constant fear of 'what if's', but the reality is I've seen dead riders still strapped into their helmet. If I wanted to do something safe, I'd join a book of the month club.
Wear what you want! At 46 I have ridden more types of bikes than most. That being said ,during my motocross days I learned what it is like to have my melon hit the ground . I have to wear a hard hat at work and wear a helmet when ride my downhill mountian bike.So a half lid is no biggie for ME.ME is all I am worried about.
The REAL posers are the "riders" who are absolutely obsessed with what everyone else is wearing. There are a lot of POSERS here, and most of them are delusional enough to think that everyone looks expectantly to them for their great wisdom.
Get over it and stop trying to elevate yourself by critiquing the way everyone else thinks and rides.
Exactly..
Even though I might not agree with what I hear or see, as long as a person stays out of my business what they wear, how they act, or what they do isn't my concern.
By the same token, if someone doesn't agree with what I am wearing, how I act, or what I doing I could care less.
Some bikers still believe in doing their own thing (or as some might say 'freedom of choice') even if others might not agree with their actions.
I've never read anything on here from a rider who's gone down whilst riding without a helmet and smacked his head on the pavement.......hard.
Wonder why?
Just because nobody's ever complained, does'nt mean all parachutes are perfect.
What ever you choose. It's none of my business.
What ever I choose is none of yours.
I'll deal with my own stuff and you'll deal with yours.
... thank you very much.
