Been wearing a shorty helmet.got several types.Modular feels ok but when it's hot that
s not good.Don need one if wreck is at 70plus.Want one if I go down at 20.Stupid rationalizations I know.Bald but still love the wind blowing thru my hair.
If you ever rode in cold or chilly weather, you would know why we wear leather.
it blocks out the cold wind better than almost anything..
still need some else for warmth under it.
All I know is that I will always wear a helmet even though in Minnesota, its not required. I don't want my wife to not get my life insurance because i wasn't following the rules in the Marine Corps.

I had occasion to be in Idaho the other day, where helmets are optional. Probably 90% of the riders I saw had no lid, the other 10% were mostly from out of state. Of the 90% unprotected brains, 80% were riding in full leathers. My question is; if you're going to wind up a vegetable or worse, why worry about road rash. Granted I'm a noob here and haven't seen all the threads dealing with helmets, but two years ago the wife and I went down hard (07/07/07). Without my full face, I would now have a prosthetic chin. I definitely believe in the right to choose, but why bother with leathers without a lid?
for every motorcyclist killed from head injuries or maimed hundreds die or are maimed from head injuries in autos. so I am sure with all your preaching you wear a helmet in your car too.

Been down once in1983...no damage to my noggin..but plenty of rash to deal with. A leather jacket would have prevented all of it..have worn one ever since. Also..good for keepin' warm on chilly nights. Still don't wear a helmet unless it's too cold not to...might not make sense to you..but my choice. I feel the added awareness in sight and hearing make up for the safety factor. Every accident doesn't involve a head injury.......
I started on dirt bikes in the 70's, always wore a helmet. Landed on my head more than once racing offroad, would I have survived without a lid?.....no way to tell I suppose. Along about 1977 Got my first street bike, a Suzuki GS-550, fast little bike. Always wore a full face on that one, parents rules.Never had to find out whether I "needed " that helmet or not thank God.
When I got into the Harley world at a later age, Rode a bunch with no lid. Had enough close calls that it opened my eyes and I now wear a Vega XTS half helmet, My choice.
