Sometimes it will drop right in there and others its no go. I tried rolling the bike a little with the clutch in and a light foot on the shift lever but it makes no difference. WTF, good thing I dont have a temper. Any thoughts ? My clutch hand is begging for mercy.
Whats worked for me when I even remotely feel the slightest resistance is I give the throttle a quick slight blip and then right behind that it drops into gear no problem or maybe like gumby says its just an established ideosyncracy established over years of owning a pan and shovel...

If the primary has a a bit too much oil in it, neutral will be harder to find. Don't put in 32ozs if your manual calls for 28ozs.

+1 with golfblues, if the primary oil quantity is supposed to be 28 ozs. put in 28 ozs. There are bold print cautions in the service manuals concerning too much oil could cause shifting or shifting into neutral problems. Also when you adjust the clutch do it with a cold (ambient temp) powertrain.

Agree. Dealer overfilled my wife's bike and it was almost impossible to find neutral. Drained and refilled to specs (bottom of clutch pack) and it was fine.

Try revving the motor a bit and see if that makes it easier. Your tranny needs some vibration to help the it shift easier.

Rock the bike back and forward a little, just a couple of inches, then pop into neutral. It will be easy, sometimes you just need a little motion, when at a dead stop.

Why would you want to put your bike in neutral at a red light? Bad idea.

I always wondered why they didn't just put neutral under first. Wouldn't that make the world a better place?

I always try to kick it in neutral before the bike comes to a stop. On my EVO Road King, I have to go from 1st to neutral. It will not go into neutral from 2nd gear. It is vastly easier to get it in neutral when the bike is moving. If I try after it has stopped, sometimes it won't go. I also use Amsoil in the primary.

On the ironhead, neutral is easier and I can sneak it in from either 1st or 2nd but I also try to do it while the bike is moving. It is actually easier to find neutral on the sporty than the Road king. May need to adjust the clutch slightly on the RK. 15k service is coming up soon so I will do it then.
