I seem to be having alot of trouble getting my bike (99flhr) to drop into nuetral when at a red light and such. It takes so much effort on the shifter that I end up going past it to the next gear. So I just sit there like a fool going from 1st to 2nd and back, going past nuetral every time. Damn that pisses me off! I never had this problem on any of my EVO bikes. Sometimes it will drop right in there and others its no go. I tried rolling the bike a little with the clutch in and a light foot on the shift lever but it makes no difference. WTF, good thing I dont have a temper. Any thoughts ? My clutch hand is begging for mercy.
Do you still have the stock shift linkage on the bike? I went from the stock shifter having a vague feeling to not having any troubles when I replaced the sloppy rod ends with Heim Joints. The information is in this link: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...int-specs.html
Well, if you had a pan or shovel, I'd tell ya "To get used to it".
Try the clutch adjustment scenario, first. Then the earl change, if that doesn't alleviate the issue.
The 'newer' ones, seem to work much betta. Couple of 'SMALL' design changes, FINALLY!!!! Only took 'em since the 40's, tho. Some cos. jus' don't wanna rush into anything new, ya know.
I'm using amsoil in the tranny, dont think thats the problem. I ordered a replacement linkage rod with hiem joints in it from e-bay. I'll adjust the clutch as well, hopefully that will cure it. It really seems like the linkage is binding the more I look at it. Thanks for the ideas.
