Angry Another Flat!!

You know, I can count on one hand the number of flats I've had in my entire life....I'm in my 40's.....

In my first year of owning my bike, and 15k miles, I got my second flat last night. Both times, nail in the back tire.

The first time I was a mile from the house so I limped home on it. The tire needed replacement anyway. Last night I was 50 miles from home, and while stopped to put on a sweat top, I smelled that "tire air" smell and sure enough, a nail!! I topped up with air, made it back to town and topped up again, and made it home.

WTF??

On a good note, she's gotten me home each time and not stranded me. If this happens again I'm going to get a tubeless setup so I can at least plug it, air up and be on my way. Maybe I've just got 'em out of the way....

The kids are constantly getting flats on their bicycles. I found a product called Slime that works good for tubed tires.

I had to get tubeless on my harley what ever I bought. I have put 80k in the past 5 years on my bikes. There has been 10 nails plug tire each time and rode the bike that those tire till all the tread was gone on each tire. I put a set of run flats on my Lowrider the nails never hurt those tires as of yet.

I avoid pulling over in the breakdown lane at all cost unless there is no other alternative. Seems like every time I pull over in the breakdown lane I get a flat......

Run flats are great but can't carry the weight as other tires do.

That's why I sold my laced wheels and went to the spoked "mag" type wheels on my Ultra.

Ride Safe.

I love the classic look of the laced wheels, but the tube issue....I'd like to be able to just pull the nail, push a plug, and use one of those CO2 things to get me to an air station.

I am surprised that in both events, I was able to ride a bit on a slow leak...I thought tubes, once punctured, went down fast.

I didn't think those Slime products, or Fix-A-Flat, would work on tube tires.

I read somewhere that Slime will damage alloy wheels. I also hear that slime easily cleans off with soap & water, but Fix a Flat is a real mess to remove. I think Slime is a good idea, cause it will get back on the road quickly. When you get home, dismount the tire, clean off the Slime(to save the wheel) and put a permanent patch on the inside of the tire.

Slime and fix a flat dose not work well with patches or plugs.
