Took the Rider's Edge course here and loved it! Got $50 gift card to HOG, free coffee mug, and a nice discount on insurance. Loved the Buell Blast-if you can't learn to ride on that bike-give it up.

Class started on Thursday night from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Yes they did take us out into the showroom but the difference from what I've read others state is that they used this to first show us the differences between the different models. Next we went into the motor clothing department where they showed us the proper attire to wear when riding. We were then broken up into groups and was asked to pull items that we consider to be right for riding and wrong for riding. They then took us into the service department where we got to ask some questions. I did not feel like this was a marketing gimick just a get to know your bike and what you need to ride safely kind of thing. This all took about 30 to 45 minuets and the rest of the evening was in the class room.

Friday night was more class room work and going over things to expect for the next two day's on the range.

Saturday & Sunday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm was spent on the range which is located in the rear of the dealership. We rode the Buell's which I had a lot of fun on and agree this is the perfect bike for this type of class.

The instructors Eddie and Alberto were awesome and I had a great time.

Looking forward to taking the Advanced Riders Course soon.

Bottom line is if your thinking of taking a class find the one thats right for you. But do take the class.
My wife and I took ours at the Stone Mountain Harley Dealership. It was the same as quoted above. They never pushed any item just tried to educate. I was experienced so it really didn't matter, but my wife has never been on a bike. They showed her differences in bikes from a safety point of view and it was really educational. We spent 45 minutes in the dealership.

The instructors was fantastic. They noticed I had experienced so they actually helped me expand my knowledge and showed me things I never knew. For my wife she did not even know what a kill switch was. She was also scared about shifting gears. They spent all the time necessary to help her become comfortable with her riding. In fact we had 9 in our class and that was the way all were treated. After my wife passed she said to me "Now I want one". She chose the 883L and now she just loves it. Our price was $300 but it was worth every penny.

I agree with everyone that my wife got what she wanted which was her endorsement. We attribute that to the fact that she rode all last year and the instructors who lead the HD RE course (as posted originally) were great. Her inexperience and some extreme weather issues prevented her from passing the MSF course last year.

We would have been ok with the $300 if the extra 6 hours of class spent on HD merchandise would have been spent in the classroom on rider safety or on the bike course. However, they took 2 trips to the showroom and everyone in the class had to try on clothing (coats, boots, etc.). They took everyone back to the classroom and gave each group of students an article of clothing (gloves, boots, coat, etc.) and had them each do a presentation on what they liked and disliked about the items. They showed videos about Harley bikes and how to identify each family of bikes... the list goes on. This is what we paid and extra $275 for - not quite what we were expecting which I suppose is our fault for not asking enough questions before we wrote the check.

My only point in posting is - buyer beware. Just because something costs more doesn't necessarily mean it is better.

I think this issue is dealer specific.

We got the typical showroom tour that went over all the models. After that we went over some merchandise, but it was focused on what kind of gear to wear when riding, proper fit, etc. A lot of valuable info and not just a ploy to sell you stuff.

The showroom/merchandise tour was 30 min. tops, then it was back to the classroom.

My riders edge course did the whole dealership experience too, it was marketing all the way. We spent 4 hours easily on harley marketing alone, ie clothing, the motorcycles and parts. I had already purchased my bike and they got me for a jacket too. The next day I got over confident and put the buell down on a emergency brake drill, the jacket padded everything and I got no scrape or scratches. The other guy that went down was ****ed up, with a goldwing jacket on......I had a great time, learned alot, learned the hardway and the instructors were great. It was at oldglory in Laurel, maryland. The only problem was scheduling, the classes were booked tight, and they were cancelling people in the class because of overbooking. I signed up 3 months before the class and was about to get bumped.

I took the Riders Edge course a couple of years ago. Indeed, the tour of the apparel dept was uncalled for..they also had us sit on a showroom bike of our choice and took pics of us on our dream bikes-but never showed them to us. We all rode Buell Blasts-which to me (6'4") was a problem-my knees were above the bars! One of the instructors was the drill sergeant type.
There were 4 ladies in the class that received 80% of their attention.
O-well
