i like to get the cheapest price for the same item. not a like item, but the same item. but, i will pay more depending on the level of customer service i get as well. for example, american classic motors has great prices on ebay, but i will buy the same item for $20 more from m&m cycles because they appreciate my business and wont call me a terrorist if i have a problem.
I usually stick to reputable brands of items and then shop for the best price. I stay away from the cheap mimic ripoffs. If it's cheap... there is usually a reason.
While it may seem stupid to pay $7000 for a leather jacket, how smart was it for a zillion people to buy Japanese cars so that the Japanese could afford to pay $7000 for a jacket?
I guess the same zillion who wanted a quality, reliable car built by people, who took pride in their job, did quality work and were loyal to their company; as opposed to over-priced, unreliable cars made (in large part) by people, who did sub-standard work, could've cared less about the company they worked for as long as they got paid, yet demanded higher wages.
Be that as it may, the $7k jackets have nothing to do whatsoever with what kind of cars people bought. The Japanese economy has been in recession for the last 20 years, but the Harley market has quadrupled, here, since 1990nevertheless. It's that boom that feeds the demand for expensive accessories...
Quality is like buying oats, If you want nice, fresh oats, you must pay a fair price.
If, however, you can be satisfied with oats that have been through the horse once,
THOSE come a little cheaper.....

Pay the price for good to best quality. In the long run it will actually be cheaper. I got some el cheapo deluxe saddle bags for my bike about a month ago. Had 'em on last weekend the first time and it rained solid on them for one full day...POS's were running (lines of the black coloring were running off here and there on them)! My el cheapo deluxe fork/tool bag, similar and leaks too, have to spray my tools with WD40 after every ride in the rain. My WallyWorld rain suit (2 piece)...top works fine and seems to be holding up okay, bottoms-the backs of both legs looks like a dog was eating my leg up (the wind flapping the leg parts so much made a bunch of the rubber outer coating come off, which happened the very first ride I did with them on. See picture).
If you're poor, like me, save up and buy quality, it's just going to give nothing but heartache buying cheap crap over and over.
