Has anyone ever noticed that folks who don't ride a Harley start to make excuses why they ride other bikes?
Seems like every time when I am talking with someone who rides a metric. Once they find out I ride a Harley, they start giving me all these reason why they don't. Like I really give a crap.
One of the excuses I like when I am on a ride with a different group aside from the HOG chapter is: " I am saving my money" for a harley. Of course I am one this guys who worked hard and when I want something I just buy also being new at riding 15K miles under my belt I didn't realized that Harleys are high end bikes, similar to a Porsche or a Bimmer's are high end cars. I wanted one and got one. Just get one and ride.
There was a tire salesman that used to come by,rode a vtx,he always talked about how good it was,I always told him I am sure they are good bikes ,but not for me,about a year later,he bought a street glide,he is very happy, doesn't know why it took so long for him to figure it out is what he told me.
Wow..such a bunch of seasoned veteran bikers...you're so hard that ya don't even care what else is out there...whatever...all it shows is that it's all about money. I got my RK on the cheap, and that's the only reason I own one. Personally, I think anyone that pays retail for one of these things is a complete tool. I don't want to seem like a *****...but some of you make it sound like talking to a metric rider is a waste of your time. Get over yourselves. Any jackass with a 500 credit rating can get one of these with 7 year financing...but of course, all of you paid cash for yours
Oh....questioning the harley dogma makes me a troll? FU...I have several other posts here about my RK. I can have my own opinion...just cause it's different from yours doesn't make me a troll. Grow up. I think different opinions makes a forum interesting...or would you prefer I just get in line with everyone else to smoke Willie G's hog?
You're not trolling, man. Relax.
And, yeah..I don't enjoy hearing that "metric riders can't afford Harleys" crap. I'd love to see some starts on how many *current* Harley owners:
--paid cash for used
--financed used
--paid cash for new
--financed new
I financed mine new; paid cash for my Kawi--bought both in the last two years (and still ride both). Just made sense to me to do it that way.
If there is any Harley elitism--and come on, there is --it shouldn't be based on how they were purchased. That's ludicrous.
I've had some good conversations with goldwing riders at work. They gave me good info when I was looking at upgrading to a touring bike and when I chose the Harley they came out to check it out and congratulate me. They'll never switch, but they respected my decision and had nothing but good comments to say about the bike. Whichever bike you choose, enjoy your ride!
+1 on this.

Don't think I've ever had a metic owner or owner of any brand of bike make "excuses" about their bike.
What I don't like is some jerk who rides a Harley that doesn't have the common sense to realize that people have choices and not everyone wants a Harley.
Some Harley riders just can't get along with anyone. Look at all the posts on here, my Harley is better than your Harley........it happens on a daily basis.
And to be very honest, I've talked to a lot of non-Harley bike owners, they don't seem to have the need to prove something, they will chat your ear off. I have met some Harley riders who seem to think they are too good to talk to me. I don't think the bike makes the person.... it's the other way around.
For me there was never any consideration about what bike I would buy. I always knew it would be a Harley, or nothing at all. Yeah, I still ride with metrics sometimes, but I would never own one.
Shakey
you would ride "nothing at all"? really?
by contrast, some people will ride no matter what.
they are naturally drawn to riding, and will ride harleys, sportbikes, dirtbikes, whatever.
