Because Softails are for RUB's, and Harley knows they will pay more for a bike.
J/K Softail guys
If I was a RUB I would have a Wide Glide to go along with my Softail. I do want one in a bad way, but I have to pay off the Heritage first. Don't understand why they quit making them. Nice WG Joe.

I do think it has to do with Softails being in higher demand. Softails have the higher sales, so they know they can charge more for them.
Econ 101 says in the long run, the price is related to the manufacturing cost. The supply and demand stabilize around the cost of making it. Roughly.
If they could not cover the cost, they would stop making it. If the demand is strong at that price, they build more until the demand is met and the price pressure eases off. Or they raise the price (moving demand down the curve)and pocket the difference unitl people start looking at Victory or Kawasaki. Then they are screwed and they go back to the price that's just above the building cost.
So this means Softails probably cost more to make than Dynas, and that the difference is roughly as much as we see in the selling price.

Thanks Travroc! In all seriousness if I was rich I would own one of almost every model Harley makes, including a few Softails. Harley's are just sweet.
I've ridden both, and I like the looks AND feel of my WG better than the Softail, but to each their own. I obviously don't see why the Softails are pricier - must just be what the market will bear. Damned if I know why the MoCo discontinued the WG...I see a lot of them on the road, so it's not like they weren't selling.
I didn't get reply to my tag-on question from my other post, so I like to ask separately and hope to get some more understanding how H-D prices the bike?
Along the line of choosing a Bike, why softail is more expensive than Dyna. They both have same size of engine. Is it because Softail has more chrome and more mods on the stock version?
In other words, what am I paying more for?
Actually, they cost the same. You see, from the time you walked from the Dyna section to the Softail section, the price increased due to inflation from our new national debt thanks to our politicians in Washington.
