Personally i think they look great, they get TOP reviews in all the motorcycle mags and it's 100% made in America! (The ONLY bike made 100% in the USA) I'm not going to buy one ... I want a new Harley, PERIOD ... BUT I think it's great there's a new ALL AMERICAN made motorcycle on the market. Who knows, maybe someday HD will once again make all their parts in the good old US? One thing's for sure ... having Victory motorcycles around will assure HD keeps on the road they've been on the past several years. Making not only BEAUTIFUL bikes but bikes that run as good as they look and that sell at list rather than the inflated prices of only a few years ago. Competition in the marketplace is ALWAYS a good thing for we consumers ... god bless them! Now ... I've GOT to get me a new Harley!!!!
I like a lot of things Victory is doing with their bikes, and at one point I entertained the idea of getting Kingpin. A number of mornings later I woke up with a brain and wanted a bagger. One look at Victory's offering, basically a Kingpin with a windshield and bags, just about had me vomiting. It's worse in person.
When I did pull the pin I chose my RK over a Roadstar in a landslide. In a nutshell, there was no way I was going to pull up at a light alongside a bike that would have me saying, "I'm gonna own one of those someday" ever again.

WRONG.
I owned two Victory's. They are not 100% American made. They may be slightly ahead of HD for American made, but basically even. Their trannys are made by Kawasaki, at least up until last year. (I had to have mine replaced due to failure)Other parts as well are imported. They are solid bikes, but the dealer support sucks big time. I know, since I trailered my bike home and waited two weeks for a drive belt, with two HD dealers within 20 miles of me. Also the aftermarket sucks. I agree we need another American bike, and Victory are great bikes. But they are not a HD, I owned two Victory's and now own HD, and no regrets. Not going back. They cannot accomplish in a few years what HD has over the past decade. HD is a legend, and it is an honor to own one IMO.
The deal killer was when he admitted that the one drawback is resale.
while they may not hold their value well. lets take an open eye look at used HD's , resale in the crapper along with the usual footnote in most for sale ads
HAVE OVER $5K IN CHROME boo hoo
i have yet to see any HD hold full resale value, especially when the moco is dumping new street bob's for $14K equivilant to what most folks paid for their 01's.
and forget about the "anniversary" editions. i picked up an 03 dyna for $9800. otd and that was from a dealer!!
while they are not everyones first choice for an "american" made mc at least we have a choice
btw
anyone looking to buy an 03 with over $5K in chrome!!
I made a post a few weeks back about Honda dealers in my area having some leftover VTX's from 2004 and 2005. I thought this was pretty bad until I learned that my nearest Victory dealer still has a few '03's on his floor. Yikes!
If the parent Polaris keeps them going, I can see a good future for Victory. Look at what they've done in 8 years, with about the same money Henderson blew just to go under (thx to some thieves too). If they can add to the model count, they will get more and more of the market. Will their resale % go up? Maybe. But that really is not an issue for most. Every custom loses value quickly, every metric the same.

Honda killed the resale value of the VTX with their "fire sale" incentives on remaining '03 & '04 models. As far as I can tell, resale value (at least on the VTX 1800) has never recovered.
Signed,
Someone who lost their a$$ on both a VTX 1300 and 1800.
