Default New Exhaust Question

Can anyone tell me what exactly to order to replace my stock exhausts with Vance & Hines Long Shots for my Softail Deluxe. I have a friend who is a mechanic and rides a RK. Does all the work himself and recently did the 1000 mile tune up for me. Besides the pipes, what else do I need? Thanks.

I've bought several V&H exhausts and they all came with the proper bracketry, etc. for the application. Every "kit" is model specific. The only item you might need are exhaust header gaskets, but I've been very successful in using the originals, especially if you have a low mileage situation. Changing exhaust is just about the easiest chore for a bike owner that isn't a mechanic.........go ahead and do it yourself.....your wrench friend can stand by in case you get in a bind.

I would contact Vance & Hines for the answer to this question, very least you may need a set exhaust gaskets, but they may include these with your new pipes.

I've done a couple of sets of V&H pipes. Everything needed was included, except for the gaskets. With such low milage, you shouldn't need them. It's about a 3 beer job.

I've put 2 different sets on my Dyna, pretty easy and everythign was included except the exhaust gaskets. I'd recommend buying new stainless steel SE gaskets, they're only a couple of bucks and after the gaskets are installed, they crush to seal the exhaust ports. I would not skimp on a couple of bucks only to find later that the old gaskets leak and have to redo the entire job. Money well spent, IMO.
