A note to share my stupidity. I was cruising along on a twisty country road in VT enjoying the scenery and ride. The s-turns were great! I had the speed tuned in perfectly - for s-turns. So when I got to an s-turn that was really a 120 hairpin that I couldn't see until I was in I had to get into a steeper lean. Whoops! A Road King doesn't give much more than I was already taking. The foot peg came in contact with the ground, the rear tire came up, and that bike dropped like a cow shot in the head! I crossed lanes and was in the guard rail in three blinks of an eye. Fortunately, even though I was too fast for that turn, probably 25 mph +/-, I was not at high speed. And, more fortunately, nobody was in the opposite lane. The damage looks substantial, but not totaled, and my damage is a couple of bruised legs and a really bruised ego. I know better than to get that close to the edge of two really important envelopes: the bike's and mine! So, my friends, please learn from my mistake: leave yourself room to get out of a jam. I think that all of us, sooner or later, get in a jam and need all our skill and then some luck. We can fine tune our skills - but not our luck! Ride Safe
Glad you're ok. I rode my RK in W. Virginia a couple of years ago. Beautiful winding roads but the RK just isn't a sport bike and I rode well within the bike's limits. I saw guys on crotch rockets riding as fast as they could - blind in the curves.
Gotta concentrate on what you are doing at all times. Riding takes your full attention - much more than riding a cage, imho. Let your mind wander and bang! - you can find yourself out of your depth. It sucks, but that's how it is. I'm glad you are OK. The bike can be fixed.
I'm sure you've thought of this by now, but if you feel the need for speed, ride the road at least once before you put the A.C.D.C. in your ipod. I'm sure you forgot to mention that the music made you do it. Serious though, glad your OK, chrome can be re-plated.
I've got my RK dropped a inch. That brings the ground up quick when your leaning.
Now get back on that horse and ride.
