Newly converted motorcyclist here, while looking to get a new Big twin and have noticed that there are tons of used HD's on the market. They all have very low mileages. It seems most the owners do not ride their bike at all. They are are very shinny and new. I saw one 2005 has less than 1000 miles and practically look new. I am afraid to test ride the bike, he must spent a lot time to maintain it this conditions.
It looks like there are two major types of owners here in the HD owner circle. Interesting, when I checked for used BMW bikes, most of them have ten of thousands miles on them.
I am not sure if you share my observations here. It is not about what is better here, it is about the objectives of use and the passion of having a bike.
Please be a gentleman and civilized when discuss this. TIA
cheers.
I ride quite a bit, both on and offroad with 4 different bikes, rain or shine, hot or cold. Currently just over 10,600 miles on the Fat Bob I bought in early November last.

Reason: needed a coma where a period was...
I bought my 06 Heritage Classic at the end of August 05. When I put it up for the night last night, I just happened to look at the odo and it said 64,002.
I've got 18,870 on her now and last summer lost my Brother and Mother, so it was a short ridding year..
And yes here in Indiana we get maybe 5 decent months to ride a year, two more if you like ridding in 50* weather..

rockDAWG......your learnin' quick. Many were jumpin' on the HD band wagon/trend when economic times allowed it. You will find some used garage trophies with very little miles on them.
I bought my 09 Heritage in February and since it is at the dealer right now getting fixed from my mishap, I can't get you exact mileage, but I am approaching 10,000 miles. I will have between 25K to 30K within the year.
Between my Wide Glide and Ducati Monster 900 and dumping my Harley last year and getting injured, and used to live in Wisconsin (short riding season)...I'm averaging 10K+ since I started riding.
