OK, whats up with slamming chopfury? Cut the guy some slack! He's just doing his job, and just because he knows more or may be smarter than you doesn't mean you need to take him down a peg. Good grief!
Chopfury, I think you've been handling the stupid criticism very well, with humor and humility. I'm impressed. Obviously better than I. Rant over.
Oh, and I really like your bike. I'm planning to put the same sideshots on mine.
sorry, I couldn't understand what you were saying but man, that wooden bike in the third photo looks awesome - talk about working with what you have and making do.
#1 How loud is LOUD ENOUGH ? #2 I would imagine that the interior noise level of various makes and models of cars are differant ? I mean what may get noticed in a Chevy might not get noticed in a Cadillac ( if you know what I mean) At what point can loud pipes become a liability ? Maybe startling a non expectant drive to swerve into your lane ? Wish you luck with your study !!!

Chopfury, it appears that you have already performed your own study in this matter by the looks of your own bike. By the way I have an air horn and loud pipes on my Ultra I like to think it makes a difference, with animals and humans.............
Sorry I don't really have any info too offer as to how to proceed with your testing, but I honestly don't think loud pipes save lives. It's a cop-out answer because every harley rider likes the sound of their bike, plain and simple.
Just how long has the statement "loud pipes save lives" been around anyway? Somehow I gota think it started shortly after big brother started passing laws in regards to noise limits.
In my 30+ years of riding I have had a lot of people cut me off. When this happens I usually lay on the horn but even that doesn't stop them.
Just today some woman pulls out in front of me and I have loud pipes. I lay on the horn and she throws up her arms and give me the dirty look. She was in a hurry and knew her car was bigger than my bike and just started coming over because she knew I would get our of her way.
This seem to happen way more often than someone jumping back over into their own lane. It's almost like when they hear a bike coming, they WANT to make us slow down or get out of THEIR way.
Another example of what I'm trying to say, when you are in traffic in a car, you put on your turn signal and the person just behind you speeds up so you can't get in front of them. If anyone has driven in Los Angeles, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
Good luck with your study but no matter how it turns out, I seriously doubt you are going to change anyone's opinion. Even if you could prove it one way or the other. And I give you a lot of credit for trying to do a test.

Do all the study you want. It ain't gonna change anything. Loud pipes po the neighbors and scare the chit out of old people who then run your a$$ over. I have true duals on both my bikes. They sound great and are as quiet as or moreso than the stock ones I took off. If we don't police ourselves the government is gonna do it for us.

Next time somebody cut you off don't use a loud horn just go and quieitly talk to them. Think about it! It's not going to work is it. Your loud horn made them hear you. Maybe you should filter the noise down on your horns. Just something to think about.
