Morning all, just been cleaning my bike after a hectic weekend of riding and discover a half inch by quarter inch chip on my tank. Any suggestions as to where I could get the correct paint and would it be advisable to get someone to do it? Thanks in advance
Just washed mine today and saw a similar sized chip in my fairing. Thought it was bug guts till I was drying it... Guess its better there than in my face.
Depends on you.... Color-rite makes "touch up paint" you could try to fix it that way. Some folks will need to have the tank re-painted, others will figure there will be more chips down the road.....
PPG paint shops can match the color, and buff out the tank to a "show room finish", for a fee.
I've seen some people use "dupli-color" in rattle cans, with mixed results.... mostly depending on YOUR efforts, prep, wet sanding, and clear coats
Been my experience, if you're not going to have it completely re-painted, it's just best to order small touch up paint from HD and do just that spot. When you get into trying to spot paint and buff, it just makes things worse. First try to touchup just that spot with matching HD touch up kit and see if it fades from your mind after a few days. Has worked for me in the past. If it doesn't work for you, still have the other options mentioned.
The HD touch up is close but you need to paint some on another part of the bike thats not seen (I did mine under the pass seat). Leave it dry for at least 2days and see if it suits you. I had to go back and get another bottle of white and put a drop in to lighten the red up a little. I know where it is but youll look a long time to find it. Good luck Steve
