He's right in saying that they run hot. Don't kid yourselves......they do. I spent a lot to get mine cooler: true duals, oil cooler, PCIIIusb. And the newer models are worse.....HD sees the issue, otherwise they wouldn't have routed the exhaust under the frame this year, or sell heat deflectors. How about the rear cylinder cut-off? All band-aid "improvements" until liquid cooling.
Flame away, but those are the facts.
I've never heard anyone claim that liquid cooling reduces the heat on the OUTSIDE of an engine. In fact, it would seem logical that by reducing the heat inside an engine they are routing more outside, towards the rider.
My wife has a FJR 1300 and until I made a metal reroute for some of the radiant exhaust heat it would literally burn her lower leg. Honda Goldwings have such heat problems for the rider that the radiator fans blow frontward in an attempt to get the heat away from the rider. Many watercooled sportbikes have aluminum frames that are very hot to the touch when they are ridden. V-Rods get awful toasty as well.
Water-cooled Harleys are not the panacea that many Jap cross-over riders like to portray them as. Big motorcycle engines get hot. Trap that air behind an acre of fairing and lowers, and then sit in traffic and you'll cook.

Wow - you guys are all getting bent out of shape over nothing.... I actually found his post to be quite informative - I have a wide glide, been thinking of adding an ultra to the stable in a couple of years. The heat issue would have never crossed my mind until the original poster brought it up. You all are whining like a bunch of kids.... "Waaaaahhh, someone doesn't like Harleys....." Who really cares? I know I couldn't care less what anyone rides. I haven't seen a bike I didn't like, but there are a lot of bikes I wouldn't personally own....
I haven't been on here for awhile but I thought I would you a last remark. I am leaving for good. Before you start sending hate mail, I won't be reading any responses. So go ahead if it makes you feel better. Anyway, here goes. I bought my first and only Harley two years ago. It was the worst investment I ever made. Not only did I purchase it, I spent over $5000.00 in upgrades. I just sold it for $17000.00 and I had over $27000.00 invested. It was an ultra classic. After riding it for two years, I am here to tell you that it is the most uncomfortable bike I have ever ridden. My wife and I rode the skyline drive/blue ridge parkway all the way to the end. I thought I would die. Now keep in mind, I'm not just a weekend rider that over extended himself. I ride a lot. That ride was over 700 miles one way. It wasn't even hot outside but the bike "burnt me up". I sword when I got back I was going to find a bike that was more comfortable or I would quit riding. Now don't get me wrong, I really liked my Harley. This isn't just a Harley bashing. There are "some" good things about Harley, being comfortable just isn't one of them. I bought a Yamaha Venture and rode it to the PA. grand canyon, what a bike. Comfortable, cool, easier to handle. Yes, I am old and I like comfort. To those of you that want to say, " go ahead ride a rice burner, get off this forum and join a Yamaha forum", don't worry I am gone. If this post offends you, oh well. Some day you will ride a nice confortable bike and you , too, will see the light. WAKE UP HARLEY. You better get with the new millennium, or you will be gone with the wind. Goodbye.
So, was a seat that fit you, highway pegs, heat shields, pipes, SE/AC and a PCIII in there?
Like they say. Don't let the door hit you in the *** on your way out.
