Congrats man! I'm gearin' up for my "iron butt" in a couple weeks. Gonna head up to PA. from Melbourne Florida and take two days to do it. Then the return trip after visiting with family will be the 1000 in 24. I'll be on a Dyna Lowrider and I will have a windshield!

Way to go for you, hope your certification goes well and speedy. wear that shirt proudly. with any luck, i'll be about half way into mine next week at this time. Congrats.
at your turn around point, did you get someone to verify that or just get a gas slip to show that point?
The way I read the rules I did not need to get any witness at the turnaround point... BUT... to be on the safe side I got the service manager at the Harley Dealer to "write it up for me." The HD dealer *was* my turnaround point so I thought that having something like this would be good insurance: (EDIT: oh, and there was a gas station next-door and I also got a timed/dated receipt from there when I got gas... I should be COVERED...)
****,
How was the construction from J-ville north? I'll be coming back down thru the mountains into Columbia SC then down 26 to 95s. any tips?
OB
I think I just got plain lucky with the construction. There were only a couple of stretches of construction when I went through in the South Carolina area, each about 10-15 miles long. I didn't get held up AT ALL by the construction stuff but when I was heading south I did see some minor congestion in the northbound lanes and when I was coming home heading north, traffic was backed up for a mile or so heading southbound. The only tip I have is to try to time your trip so that you're heading through South Carolina during a time-frame when I-95 would be lightly traveled like early in the morning or late at night. Can't really be any more specific than that, sorry. Good luck!

Take note of the wind noise. I finished my 1,000 and it took about 6 hours to get my hearing back to normal. Also, Anti-Monkey Butt powder does a nice thing for you. Don't rush it, I did it in 18 hours and didn't feel rushed. Just keep the wheels turning and enjoy the ride.
