Wow you guys have some HOT bikes. I'm on an 09 ultra with a pcv/ big sucker a/c and my oil temp was 198 after a 120 mile ride in 98 degree heat. I've checked it at other times and I've never seen it over 220
Recently got the HD dipstick with the temperature gauge so not sure how hot it was before. Ride a lot here in central and western Arkansas, lots of hills and curves. Hardly ever get it in 6th. Rode about 500 miles over two days in a couple of weeks ago and the temperature outside was in the mid 80's to low 90's. Never got over 210 even in the worst part of hills and curves running about 45 mph and was usually sitting on 200 degrees.
With Harley saying the 96 runs in the 250-260 range normally, and mine stays right in that area, I would question your measuring device.

People put so much stock into running a little rich for cooling, that's great for a 2 stroke motor, not so good for 4 stroke ..+ it doesn't much matter for a 4 stroke. It's negligible.
I'm with you. I look for Ray Liotta to come and kick the crap out of some posers on this thread anytime now. As my Harley guy would say, "Just ride the damn thing."
