Morning all, I'm sure that this has been covered a time or two so please bear with me on this. I just bought my very first HD. Its 2009 Ultra classic and to be honest it still has paper tags on it.. I took the wife out and the first comment she made was "it doesn't sound like a Harley!" And I agree!!
The next question she asked was "can you put louder exhaust on it?".. So here we go, I'm looking for slip-on's like the old screaming eagles. The new ones are much more quiet. Now I'm not looking to blow out ear drums here but I want something in the middle with a deeper tone. Can you tell me what you have and like and maybe offer a few examples to stay away from. I used to believe that loud pipes save lives but these days (I'm almost 40 now) I beleive that medium sounding pipes save lives! I do want to listen to the music too on long trips!
There are lots of nice sounding slip-ons out there, and just about everybody has their favorites. Take a look at the Power Packages from FuelMoto. For around $700.00 you get a PC-V pre-mapped for your bike, a SE type stage 1 A/C and a set of their Jackpot Dyno-tuned mufflers. You can also get the same baffle configuration in the Rush slip-ons if you prefer, but they cost a little more.
I'm very pleased with the Jackpots' sound. A little louder than stock at cruise (not enough to drown out the music) and a nice bark when you twist it!
Fuelmoto is a great company to do business with: They patiently answered all my questions even though I'm sure they get the same ones 10 times a day!
Scroll down and you can listen to the different baffle sizes.
I put the Rush slip-ons on my '09 Ultra and they sound great. That true Harley thump for around $400. My dealer said I had to do the Stage 1 download when I put the Rush's on, so I did. That's another close to $200 bucks. I love the sound of mine for $600 bucks.

You can't beat the Rush slip-ons for the value. My buddy put the 2.0 baffle on his SG. They sound pretty good. I opted for the SE Touring Performance pipe for the '09 touring. As you point out, they are definitely quieter than the older SE pipes. I had Rinehardt true duals on my Road King, and they were great sounding. But now that I have CD player on my SG I was more interested in hearing it than the pipes. And when I got my '09 the aftermarket had not caught up with the new exhaust routing. So I figured I would just go with the SE slip-ons until something better came along. For now they've grown on me.
