A friend asked me what that was supposed to mean, and I told him, it's the journey, not the destination. A watch will make one keep to some kind of 'schedule' instead of simply riding and being free. At least that's what it meant *to me*.

It does mean that but it is also a reference to the very beginning of "Easy Rider" when he ditches his watch and chucks it before heading out on the road.
