I wait a while, until the second cycle of the light, and if it takes more than two cycles, I blow the light. (after yielding and looking well, of course.) This is for left and proceeding straight. Here in PA, right turn on red is (usually) legal. Thank god.
However, at bad intersections where I am awaiting a left turn, I have been known to motion cages behind me, to pull up and trigger the lights.
I have seen others do the same. The cages usually seem know what is going on at a bad intersection, and they will pull up and trigger the light for you. That just might be here tho.

Stop on the red light. Look in all directions. If there are no other cars in sight; gun it.
If a cop sees you and pulls you over your argument is that you pulled up to the light, stopped, saw no one else and knew that the light wouldn't change for you because you are on a bike so you left (after telling him you looked in all directions).
If the cop doesn't buy your story, then simply outrun him. I hope for your sake he isn't on a Road King police.
I don't have any problems with many red lights being triggered in my area on my bike. I do know that the sensors are triggered by electrical current from the bike or car. Maybe due to all the lights I have on a night I have no problems.
