5th gear whine

yeah it was noticeable on my 07 road king but i had ids installed (isolated drive system) and it cut out all the chatter including the clunking in the tranny.

I've read many threads about the 5th gear whine. The first day that I road my 07 and shifted into 5th gear I heard the whine. It sounded exactly like my 61 panhead or the 75 flh, I can't remember which one. It's normal and was never even a small concern to me. So many have complained about the whine that HD changed the gear on the 2010's.

I have not heard of any transmission problems or failures so far. It's doubtfull that the moco will fix something that is not broke!

My 08 sounds like a car running in reverse in 5th gear. The whine sound has just started with 5000 miles on it. You would think 105 years in buisness and $20,000for a bike they wouldnt have problems like this.

I must be lucky I have never heard any 5th gear whine with my 2008 has 19K miles on it. And I consider myself to have decent hearing.....

It isn't broken, just another noise to add to the cacophony of sounds my bike makes. Synthetic oil quiets it down but I have got used to it. Nothing to fix.
