While I use Amsoil in the engine and primarry also, tranny gets Redline HD Shockproof. While this subject has been beat to death (dino vs. synthetic), what is really most important is that the oil gets changed at regular intervals. Check your maintenance schedule, keep to it and you should have no problems.
I just don't believe mankind has created 1 oil that is great for all three holes.
HD tried.....but I don't think they're putting it in the new bikes
Just my opinion
I agree and yes, even HD is now recommending their new Formula + for the trans and primary.
I use AMSOIL in the motor but I can buy it from one of our mechanics at work. It's real easy to find here in Wisconsin but it's made here so I'm guessing we have more dealers than most areas.
just bought mine on Saturday. They put syn in the Primary and the Tranny. 20w50 in the crankcase. Thats just for break in. I will change to Syn 3 at 1,000.
This is just IMHO, but I would not put in Syn3. I had them add it at my 1000 mile service and I am not happy with it. It seems to shift funny and is loud & clunky when shifting. I just got my AMSOIL in the mail Friday and will hopefully get it changed this week. (At 2500 miles). Just my $.02 worth, but you might check the oil forum, it seems like a lot of people are unhappy with the Syn3, wish I would have looked there first.
I rode 5000 mi last summer, much of it in over 100 deg. heat with the same 20W50 in all three. No ill effects, shifts smoooooth. Took it apart in the winter to do a 95 in. All looked good.
ok.... you've putt it in all three holes. and everything worked out fine.. im am now very interested in trying that.

WOW, [sm=icon_rofl.gif][sm=devilangel.gif] thats too funny!
I have Amsoil in my Cage and so far am very happy with it. BUT .... I did have a major problem with their oil filter. it loosened up on my TWICE when I first put it on causing me to dump a quart or so on the ground.
did the oil change started the car and checked for leaks everything looked good.....no leaks. drove to work the next morning and unknown to me I was leaking oil from the loose filter all the way to work..... I noticed it at lunch. so I tightend
it up...no more leaks....then when I left for work that night I checked it again before pulling out of the parking lot and sure enough it was leaking. tightend it up again and it hasnt leaked since.
but regardless of my oil filter problem I will be putting their product in my bike shortly after its (over due) 1000 mile service.
