From what I understand, the factory is not taking any orders for 06 models. They start switching over soon to the new model year. All the dealers have the new color samples....but they won't usually tell you they have them. They naturally want to sell their current inventory.
That being said, I'd be awaiting news on the '07 models and decide when I know about or see the model I'm interested in. All we have right now are rumors on standard equipment and options.
I did get to see the new color chart (lots of new colors and combo's), Yes: the dealer I have been doing business with over the last 17 years was sold out of that model for the year. (they did say that could try to get one from another dealer but I would have to take any color they could get)
I think it would be best to hold off a couple of months and get the color I want and any upgrades the 07 may have (6 speed trans?????).
I heard no changes for th 07's except the usual color changes............they are still having problems with the 6 speed trans. so they are not mainstreaming it in yet just staying with the dyna family
I talked to a gal I know from the MOCO just this past weekend. She had told me over the winter that she was gonna order an '06 this spring so I asked her if she had done so yet. She told me she is waiting for the '07's to come out but wouldn't tell me why she had decided to wait. She just smiled and said 'you know I can't say anything.'
She usually buys a bike from the Softail or Touring line.
After the recall on my '06 FXD35 for the "false neutral", the tranny is excellent. Neutral is a very positive find. I have rave reviews on it. My guess is that it'll be in another family besides the Dyna.
Also, if any HD employee leaks the "inside scoop" on any upcoming model and the factory finds out.....they are toast. It's an unwritten rule but they are reminded of it all the time.
