Whatever works for you is fine with me. I don`t use one, and lots of other folks don`t either, to each his own.

And the pros at the shops love to replace the shifter shafts and shift levers on these trannys when they wear out from the shifters being stomped on...

I kept hanging my pant leg on the thing and almost dropped the bike twice the first week. Removed it, capped it and that was the end of that.

I removed the heel shifter about 3 weeks ago. I never used it and it was taking up too much of the floorboard real estate.

I have seen extended shifters on other bikes, so they are available.

On my Road kIng I swapped out to a 1 piece heel/toe shifter and brake lever from Wicked Imgae. Plenty of room for my size 13s. I actually have one of the tribal sets for 99-07 baggers I was getting ready to put on craigslist. PM if you are interested. Brand new in the original packaging. A friend bought them for me. She knew how much I liked the room of the set I had on my Road King but she didn't know that they wouldn't fit on my 09. If they ever make them for the 09s I may get another set. The pics below of them installed on the RK are the flame set which should give you an idea of the room. They hang over both side of the floorboard by a little bit. The unistalled pics are the ones that I am about to sell.
