I'd have to say that Ultra110 has pretty much said it the best.
Just seems like by coasting like that your opening yourself up to many more unneeded risks. Just my $0.02
I don't know for sure, I'm not an engineer, but the HD tranny isn't an automatic like an automotive tranny. Automatics definately need the engine running to run the hydraulics and keep the tranny lubricated. Manual trannys don't suffer from that problem. My guess is it's ok.
.
Sorry but that is way off. In a constant mesh transmission (which most all are nowadays) with the wheels pushing the transmission mainshaft you can weld the mainshaft to the input (maindrive gear). Ask any wrecker driver who has towed a vehicle any distance, with the rear wheels on the ground, without disconnecting the driveshaft. New tranny time!

I didn't know that. I thought it only applied to automatic tranny's. Thanks for clearing that up.
Yes, it should not hurt anything mechanical to coast with the engine off. There is nothing turning that doesn't have adequate lubing coasting. Letting your clutch drag could create wear and heat. If it is adjusted right there should be no problem there.

Isn't Kingsbury the one that drops down into Genoa? Last time I was over that pass the tar snakes were really bad & it's pretty tight at the top. You must be coasting down near the bottom. Luther would be pretty nice for coasting!

Yes, Drops down near Genoa about 5 miles away from Genoa. I start at the top and try not to use the brakes with a few flat spots but you carry enough speed through the flats.
As for tar snakes the road is in real good shape.
I don't need to coast down this hill just mixing up the ride. I don't want to do any damage to my bike. My dirt bikes I have done this with and no issues.
Just asking anyone out there
