I am bias, but I like the RKC. However the Whitewalls can be a bitch to keep clean. Not sure if it would matter to you, but on the RKC you can get ABS and Cruise. Can't get that on the Softail. Good luck, and let us know what you end up with.

Not sure about the deposit. The dealer ship let me test ride for a couple of hours with no charge. Let them know you are looking to buy, and I would bet they would let you ride whatever you want. Within reason.

Hello again ... and thanks. I am planning on test-riding a Road King and a Heritage Softail within the next few days ... so we'll see which one "wins" ...

They're all awesome bikes! I would get them all. If you have to pick 1, I'd go with the King.

I appreciate it! Given the choice, I'd get the exact one that jagator has. The question is whether or not a new one can be found anywhere. My local dealership has already checked and there are none in DC, MD or VA.

Also keep in mind that sometimes even a test ride won't tell you everything. Most people don't keep their bikes stock for very long. I went from a Heritage to a Road King Custom. Mainly because I used to do mostly 2 up touring with my wife. I hated the stock RK riding position, but loved the styling. So I ended up changing almost everything including the stock leather saddlebags. I'm just saying, try to pick the one that works the best for you stock and then you can work from there. If cruise, ABS, etc is important to you, get the RK...you can always modify it later to suite you better.

Thanks. Yes, cruise control and ABS are important to me. And the "studded" look of the Heritage Softail isn't my first choice. But in sitting on both models in the showroom (and at the International Motorcycle Show), it seemed that the Heritage Softail was a better fit, as the handlebars on the Road King had me reaching more forward than I'd prefer. Of course, I was told that the handlebars could be replaced with something that reached back farther ... for $700.

As for stock vs. not stock, I do prefer the stock look, though I will have to get a sissy bar and rider backrest before all is said and done.

I replaced my RKC bars myself with Wild Ones for $120.00 and HD makes a $80.00 bar with no cable/wiring change required called RK Heritage that a LOT of guys really like. $700? Bars better be able to go full auto-pilot for that kind of $$$.

Thanks for the heads-up. Should I actually buy a Road King, and should I need to replace the handlebars, I will contact you for more details!
