if you are concerned about saving $2 a quart and go non synthetic, or blend, you need a cheaper bike. I would never put anything other than synthetic in any of my bikes. Nice to only change oil half to 1/3rd as often.
If Harley would market a leak stopper made from cow ****, people would still buy it. Its the marketing magic of Harley Davidson.

ok you guys i prefer synthetic Motor Oil in my cars and i had them put the sync 3 in all 3 holes for my first service (220.00 waste of money), next time it mobil1 v-twin in engine, what about tranny and primary case?

Really, I try not too get to "hung-up" on the oil thing. I bought the syn blend 'cause I figured if it does basically the same job as the syn3 then why not....i'm not worried about the $2 bucks...just figure it's better in my pocket. I have also ran the syn3 in all three holes and contrary to what I have read here, I have had no problems...I just hear alot of unsubstaniated opinions, no hard evidence. Hell, for many years I just used the regular HD oil and never had a engine or oil related problem. Also...I don't think the oil change intervals increase using Syn..or am I wrong about that???...maybe it's longer in that "cheaper" bike Johnnyiroc is advising me I should purchase. Wish I was told 5 harleys ago...I could have saved allot of money. lol

I hate to turn this into one of those oil threads BUT. What I was getting at is this.
Our V-twins, since they are only air cooled and most dont have an oil cooler...they run hot! You ask a lot of your oil when it is 90+ outside and you are in traffic. Why not buy some cheap insurance in the form of full synthetic?
I don't see anything wrong with a little less friction and wear either.
The only reason for not giving a damn about how long your engine last is...
You really wanted a bigger one, or a kit anyway. I have never met anyone on a HD with under 110CI that was 100% happy with power output.
I just figure if person "A" dont give a damn, he should ride a cheaper bike.
Maybe it is just me, I hate spending money fixing crap when it breaks.
HD parts are already too expensive, why accelerate your parts purchases by using lame oil?
I would rather be riding.

A five year study was done with 74 New York city cabs with synthetic oil. At the end of the five years there was no cost savings relating to engine maintenance with the 74 cabs over the ones using regular oil.
A car engine can go 250 to 350 thousand miles on regular oil and 250 to 350 thousand miles on synthetic oil.
A air cooled mc motor will run a tiny bit cooler on synthetic oil. But it will run a lot cooler with an oil cooler.
I buy the cheapest store brand oil on sale for my trucks, cars and motorcycles. I have driven these vehicles 1.7 million miles without any oil related issues.
I average $l.50/qt. Since 1962 I have saved enough money to pay for several cars/motorcycles. I also go for the cheapest oil filter which is usually a Fram.
That cheap oil has done well in my three Corvettes, one Viper and three Harleys.
