Don't ever ride the high mountain roads in GA, TN, KY, PA, NC, VA, and ESPECIALLY West Virginia... everyone straightens out the turns. On a lot of these roads it's either straighten out the turns or go 10-15 mph and take forever to get there. Talk about nerve-racking on a bike - rock cliff straight up on one side of the road with about a 2' wide shoulder - rock cliff sheer drop of about 200' on other side of the road with a 2' wide shoulder and measley guard-rail... 2 lane road with switch-back turns and a loaded 1963 GMC log truck barrelling down the mountain at about 50 mph... kinda makes "sharp" turns through the flat Florida swamp-land seem tame doesn't it?
But, when you do stop in the ditch to let the log truck fly by the view is awesome!

I hear ya, I grew up in upstate NY and know all about rock faced mountain roads, lol. The problem here in FL is if they are locals in a hurry, they are scared to death seniors or lost tourists. It all seems tame until one of them tags one of us!
We are looking at relocating to GA and I look forward to the scenic rides!
You're gonna get this behavior no matter where you are. Like the rest of you, I know all about the ideal way to apex a curve but I have no intention of doing that unless I can see around it. Too many times someone is using their car to do their own ideal apex and it just happens to be in my lane...
Ditto for Chicago, Houston, and several cities I've lived in NC. It makes the argument for more stringent licensing even more compelling. It's as if once one gets their drivers license, road rules and common courtesy no longer exists-your side of the road is wherever you want it to be. I wonder if our European friends have the same issues?
"Rocket" almost got tagged by a dump truck in MO. Off the road and into a ditch before he caught a driveway through the ditch a landed on his side. Chit happens everywhere, gotta watch for everything.
It's done here in PA too. I do it as well but only if I can see through the curve. If there are trees or any other obstructions blocking my view why would I want to do something that's obvisouly stupid? The thought of other peoples safety in this case never even enters my mind. It's my own skin I'm worried about whether I'm in my truck or on the bike so I stay in my own lane.
