That's a valid question. The front tire wears out symmetrically on the sides and the middle. The rear tire generally wears out the middle with lot of wear on the sides leftover.
Just like on the front of a car where the tire cantors over onto the edge of the tire it does the same on a bike. Car tires aren't good on the front but it can be done. Also; most rims are much narrower on the front so there's no CT for it anyway.
I wouldn't put a CT on a sport bike because of the speeds they push those bikes to in the corners but on a cruiser it's no big deal.
i'm sure the people running these tires have their own reason for doing so. i can't dispute that with data nor do i want to debate why they do it. good luck to all that run car tires on their motorcycle. be as safe as you can.
peace.
There's no need to bicker. Everyone with an ounce of common sense knows that a squared-off car tire will cause a bike to handle like $#!+. Especially in the rain, when not only do you have almost no tread width on the pavement while leaning into a turn.... you also have no grooves to channel away the water.
Can anyone here spell H-Y-D-R-O-P-L-A-N-E?
I think some people forget that this is an open forum...whatever you post, someone's gonna agree with you, and someone else won't...and everyone gets their ***** busted once in awhile, it comes with the territory...but if you're thin skinned and need everyone's approval, or get offended when someone disagrees with you, you're in the wrong place...
Not busting ***** here, but. I need pics. Without pics, this is useless information. I could care less if it handles like chit, or is unsafe. It is the OP's post, his idea and their life. I just want to see the end result.
I'm a Gold Wing (GL1800) owner as well as a HD owner. On the Gold Wing forum they have the 'Dark siders" section. These guys get more than 20K miles on their rear "car" tires some of these tires are "run-flats"as well. And some of the car tires recommended are actually rounder than other car tires.
I test rode a Gold Wing with a car tire on it. It's far more comfortable than a mc tire and cornering isn't much of an issue since a Gold Wing isn't a sport bike but yet can out corner most Harleys. Since am a double dark-sider, (GL1800 trike) I can relate.
So don't count out the dark siders, to date on the Gold Wing forum there hasn't been one car tire failure reported. Yet there are dozens of OEM mc tire failures reported.
Remember that these darksiders are our present day pioneers. Not to long ago MC companies didn't approve of steel belted radias, tubeless tires, mag wheels, wind farings, cb radios, etc.
If you haven't tried it, then how can you judge it???
