Very common problem. A friend from the MoCo says that it's one of the most common complaints received at customer service in Milwaukee. It used to bother me but I've learned to ignore it.
And this is a problem that has been ongoing for years - yet it doesn't appear that the MoCo has done a damn thing about it.

I'm so dissappointed to hear that so many of you will just sit back and take it for what it is. I've got a 2006 Night Train and the speedo andfuel guage are both foggy anytime my bike gets wet. I've ridden a lot of bikes and never had that problem with my Yamaha R6's, R1, or Vstar. I guess this is what to expect with a domestic bike? I call BS. I'm about to be anti-harley if the friggen dealer doesn't fix my oil leak (after 2800 miles) and do something about the guages.
I would be cool with it if I paid a fair price for the bike, but to charge top dollar for something that needs shop attention every week. I'm about fed up. Anyone wanna softail night train for a deal?
Git a cycle dryer and blow yer baby off after you wash her. Then crank her up and let her run for a few minutes for her to git hot, this will git some of the moisture off and leave her in the sun to dry. The guages will be unfogged.
It ain't good for the chrome to put a bike up wet either.
Fogged gauges are standard equipment on Harleys...
Have been for years... no plan to upgrade to totally 100% permantly fogged gauges in the future either...
They say its normal but i cant stand it, I have an old hairdryer in the garage it takes about 2 mins on high to make it clear. not high tech or anything but it does the trick.

My bike will just turn 1 year old on July 4th weekend (or at least that is how long I have had it -- new from the dealership). Garage kept, maintained meticulously, etc... Today I notice that the fuel gauge is fogged and moisture coats the inside of the lens. If I lived in a part of the country where temperature changes were significant, I could understand the condensation. But living in Houston where we only have about a 15-18 degree flux between daytime highs and nighttime lows, I cannot understand this problem.
Suggestions? Is this common in a $20K+ bike? Surely they have designed the gauges to be sealed and water resistant -- if not water proof...
Still under warranty, but wondering if this is an "excluded item" like the virtually useless air temperature gauge...
Will be glad to answer this question. I have the flush mount LED gauge and gas gap installed and the guage does not fog, however, after a wash the first and sometimes second light on the gauge will be a little blurry but still quite visible. I'm very happy with the quality and looks of the flush mount kit.

You would think at the price they charge for these bikes that they would make some simple improvements like sealed gauges. What would that cost $5 at the most. Even though you can dry them with a hair dryer or they clear by themselves after a few hours, there is always going to be a residue that builds up on the inside of the plastic or glass, guaranteed. I've been lucky so far but then I live in the dry desert of Arizona.

I'm so disappointed to see this year old thread dredged up
Seriously, in the grand scheme of life...I really couldn't care less about a fogged up gauge...just not all that important to me.
