My bike will just turn 1 year old on July 4th weekend (or at least that is how long I have had it -- new from the dealership). Garage kept, maintained meticulously, etc... Today I notice that the fuel gauge is fogged and moisture coats the inside of the lens. If I lived in a part of the country where temperature changes were significant, I could understand the condensation. But living in Houston where we only have about a 15-18 degree flux between daytime highs and nighttime lows, I cannot understand this problem.
Suggestions? Is this common in a $20K+ bike? Surely they have designed the gauges to be sealed and water resistant -- if not water proof...
Still under warranty, but wondering if this is an "excluded item" like the virtually useless air temperature gauge...
Happens on mine as well...it usually goes away after a day of riding. Never really gave it much thought other than...damn, the fuel gauge is fogged up.
Just because it fogs doesn't mean its not water tight. And it can be water tight and not air tight. But, if you are unhappy you should take it back and explain it to the service manager at your dealership. I would recommend taking a digital picture of the fogged guages and having it blown up at Kinko's for $5 and take that in with you. My $.02.
When I bought mine used from the dealer in the fall it was all fogged up. Salesmen says it happens on them all. Got it home and it dried up in a few days while being stored. But I noticed it fogges up after a wash. Clears in less then a day.
I don't worry about it, as long as it doesn't start to corrode inside and guage give ups.
