Default Gas Guage problem ...

Filled the tank yesterday but today I noticed the guage was on empty. Then it went to half and then back to empty bounced around near empty. I check the tank and it is full.

I suppose it would be the wire in the tank grounding? or float stuck?

Any idea what is usually is?

Stock tank mounted guage on an 04 Night Train.

there's a gas gauge? i never use mine. i just go by the odometer. when i hit 150 (5 gal tank) i start looking for a gas station. the only time that i have run out of gas is the one time i relied on the low fuel light. it came on early one morning on my way to work (i had to be there at 5am), and i thought i could make it to the gas station on post. well, i found out the hard way that my low fuel light means 5 miles or less...

MY gage used to werk perfectly...one day it acted up and is very inaccurate. I heard that "aggressively" filling your tank can bend the float rod...as in full throttle filling ... i am figurong this winter i will investigate the inside the tank float but until then as was posted earlier....at 150 i look for fuel.

I don't know if I've even LOOKED at the gas gauge on my Train in the 3 years I've owned it...I set the trip meter whenever I fill up, and go from there...no problem...

+1....those gauges are so inaccurate the only certainty is the trip odometer.
