Default When do you start to get nervous?

I was riding home from Summerville this afternoon. I usually stop for gas around 100-125 on the odometer, but I let it go a little longer. I know my bike gets pretty good mileage, but I start to get nervous after 125. I don't trust my fuel guage at all (especially after the tank lift). I finially got to a gas station with about 145 on the tank. I was sweating a bit by then. It took 3 gallons to fill the tank. I don't know why it worries me so much. It just does.

I know what you mean..I get nervous around 115 because the light is usually on around then....I have stock tank and my light goes on, and I never fill over 4 gallons, most of the time around 3.5 gallons...My light basically comes on with 2 gallons left. lol.

I am waiting until I just go crazy and not fill up until I have run out of gas.. lol

Try this sometime... next time you start feeling nervous your fuel level... stop and fill a small container with gas instead of your bike... keep it with you until you run out... write down the mileage - that's how far you can travel before you're pushing... pour the container of gas into your fuel tank and head to a service station... you spend a lot of time pumping gas the way you do it. Oh yeh... do not trust your gas gauge to be accurate... it never will be... in fact, I removed mine and put a cup holder in.

What are you riding? My FLSTN consistently gets 38-40 mpg overall, so with a 5-gallon tank my max range is ~200

I get a pretty steady 200 miles per tank. Sometimes as much as 220. Light goes on around 130. Seems to reset itself the more short rides I do. So if I keep doing short trips (to work is only 10 miles) it'll recalculate. I did a bunch of really short trips last month and the reserve kept resetting itself and said I had 10 miles left finally. I tried pushing it and I was almost to work when it started sputtering... I filled up and it took 4.95 gallons. That one was scary...but if you're in town and have stations close by, push it and see what milage you can get!

I usually get around 170 or 175 before the light comes on. I have an 08 Train, which holds 5 gallons. I have never put more than around 4 gallons in, even when the R says I only have like 10 miles to empty. I will have to try that jug trick, just to see how far I can go. I usually just ride until I'm around 200 and stop to fill up.

Same here, getting around 200 per tank (well thats as far as ive lat it go). Went to the blue ridge parkway, and doing a lot of highway was getting over 50 mpg.
