25,000 miles? I change my Mobil 1 fluids at about 3 to 4,000 miles...I wouldn't pay that kind of money for any fckn oil, and I wouldn't let my bike go 25,000 miles if I had Chuck Norris's urine in there...
Taking advantage of the Amsoil preferred customer account is probably one of the best deals out there. I run Amsoil synthetic and oil filters in all my vehicles - 2 cars, 1 motorcycle, 1 ATV. Definitely makes up for itself at least 4 fold per year.
Amsoil recommends changing there oil in a Harley at twice the factory recommended interval. That means 10,000 miles. I split the differance and change it at 7,500 miles.Last time I ordered from them I got there prefered customer for 6 months for $10.00 . He did get ripped off bad by his dealer. I wouldn't buy anything from them again. Who know what else there screwing him on. Also the more you buy from Amsoil the more you save. There shipping rate goes down the more you buy. Either stock up or get together with some friends and buy a bunch. Amsoil is cheeper than the Citgo blend SYN3 Harley sells and it's much better.
I change the oil and filters in my bikes at a maximum of 3,000, and it doesn't matter if I'm running conventional oil or the latest 'super duper' synthetic.
Probably 'overkill' to most, but I don't care. An oil/filter change isn't that expensive and I like running fresh fluids in my bikes.
By the way, over the years I've put thousands of miles on bikes running various oil. and when it comes to synthetics my engines seem to be just as happy running any of them.
I haven't seen anything that suggests the $10+ a quart synthetics are any better than something like Mobil 1 15W50 that can be purchased for $4.25 a quart.
25,000 mile intervals is only for cars and trucks. You not only got screwed on the price, but got some bad advice also. But is wasn't AMSOIL's fault, it was the seller. I'd demand a refund and order straight from the factory with the preferred customer set up.
If you change oil ever 3K miles there's no need to use synthetic,,,, conventional dino oil would be just fine and a waste of money spent for synthetic, of course one can do so if they choose, it's only a matter of money.
The engine will be fine either way. Pure synthetic oil will not lose it's viscosity as fast as regular dino oil does, and can take a lot higher operating temps than dino oil, if you want to go longer on synthetic and get your moneys worth,,,, around 8K is not too long between changes on pure synthetic such as moblil 1 or any pure synthetic,,,, change it once a year if you aren't able to ride 8k in a year.

I change at 2500 miles on the HD's and 3000 miles on the vehicles. Could be overkill, might be a waste of money, but it is my money. I use synthetic in the bikes and the vehicles. The boats are fixing to go to synthetic. Never lost an engine since I quit racing.
Yeah, you got a 'good buddy' deal down at the parts store alright.. He robbed you and filled you full of bad info.
I spoke with the Amsoil rep at a local meet and was informed the same as an above poster..
Double the Mfg. suggested mileage for oil change.
This of course presumes you use their filters as well.. so 10k is easily do-able according to this guy.
He was on an Ultra and told me this was his interval.
My local guru for all things mechanically Harley tells me that 5k on Amsoil with a quality filter is no sweat. He has well in excess of 100k on his personal bike, and works on tons of 'em around here, so I got no reason to think he's blowing smoke.
So, I'd feel ok going 7.5k to 10k, but there's not a prayer that I'd push mine to 25k.
