Just got first bike. 2004 Dyna Wide Glide. Is there a general rule of thumb about what parts fit this bike? I.E. Exhaust systems, Controls etc. Done a lot of reading and there seems to be a pretty significant change in the bike at about 2006. Went down to HD dealership to buy foot boards for this model bike and was told they did not make them for the 04 model. Bought some mini pads instead. Actually worked out nice, but it got me thinking about parts in general. Live in an area where there are a lot of nice used parts for sale but really don't know how to cross refrence whether they will fit my bike. Any tips from anyone?
Well, look for FXDWG on the parts packages, or it might say will fit all FX models.
Anything for your fork is specialized. The softail standard shares it, and if it will fit an FXST, it will more than likely fit on your bike.
As for the rest of your bike, pretty much any Dyna parts will work.
There are two different Dyna frames; 1991-2005, and 2006-present. And there are some changes made during the 93-05 run. The thick Harley catalog that is free will tell what fits what.
