thank you everyone for all the help, but im still lost. i found a blue tag riveted on the right downtube with six numbers on it. i have been told that means the frame was altered, or damaged. does anyone know where i can look up what these numbers mean? i still can't find any vin numbers on the frame.... im gettin deeper in the hole over here... thanks!
I had to read some of your posts to see what you were talking about,,, if it was given to you and you have no bill of sale it sounds like you need to talk to someone at your local DMV as to what you need to do to get the proper paper work to be able to legally sell it.
Found this.....Removed, Destroyed, or Obliterated Motor or Identifying Number: Distinguishing Vehicle Identifying Number
4166. The department may assign a distinguishing vehicle identification number to a motor vehicle whenever the motor or other identifying number thereon is removed, destroyed or obliterated, and any motor vehicle to which a distinguishing vehicle identification number is assigned as authorized herein shall be registered under the number so assigned when registration of the motor vehicle is required under this code.
Amended Ch. 824, Stats. 1970. Effective November 23, 1970.
i found the remains of numbers on the neck on the downtube. looks like they have been ground off.... all i could see was j1519? the nine is questionable though. does this ring a bell for anyone? does it mean it might be stolen?
