Geezer, I have the same problem on my RoadKing! I changed to heritage bars and a Mustang with backrest, this helped but after a while it still feels like hot lead dripping down my left shoulder blade! It seems that when I wear my leather, I don't feel it as bad as when I'm riding in a tee shirt! Go figure!!!

You are right about the tour pak solo set-up....You can't get much more back support.

I have a similar problem. The searing pain right around my shoulder blade, more to the left side. I have put 4" pull back risers on my handle bars and installed hwy pegs so I can stretch out more....and that made quite a difference. I can typically use my travel pack as a back rest so I know that's not the problem. That pain, though not as severe as I have experienced it, still gives me trouble on longer trips.

I think, at least in my case, after an hour or so, I start to relax, get tired, I'm not sure maybe a combination of the two, and my posture starts to go. My helmet seems heavier and I think a combination not holding my helmet up and slouching too much, is what is causing my problem. I am seriously thinking of trying to get a carbon fibre helmet (it would be so much lighter), I'm hoping, at least, THAT will help.

ORIGINAL: GeezerGlider

back is talking to me - not so much lower/lumbar area, but mid-ways up to between the shoulders. I've brought the handlebars down/back a ways, but no help. I find the seat to be just OK - looks better than it feels, but I don't want to throw money at a corbin or ness seat if I can't be reasonably sure it will help.
Good post. I can sure relate. After riding for awhile I start moving around a lot on my bike to try and get some relief. I had a fracture in my upper back back in the 70's and that may be my source. Some days are better than others. Hope you find some relief.

When we go on longer rides, I put my Lazy Rider barrel bag on the passenger seat and don't experience any back pain. Changing foot position from the forward pegs to the highway pegs and back also helps. Here's a photo of the Lazy Rider.

If you do decide to buy another seat, check out the web site for mustang seats http://www.mustangseats.com/ Thye have a 10 day return policy in the original box. Their claim is you just don't know if a seat is going to be comfortable until you ride with it at least a 100 miles. Also they say this is only good through them directly. I am not affiliated with mustang seats in any shape or form, but I do understand how a seat will look like it's going to be comfortable and then your a$$ and back tells you differant after some miles. I have bought too many seats that didn't work out on my bikes in the last 25 years, so shop wisely and good luck.

Since I put my Sundowner seat on my LowRider my lower back acts up on longer rides as well. I think I am going to look into some bars that come back a little farther. That would be more comfortable I believe.
