Default Biker Down

Took 3 days and did a ride to Hot Springs, Ark and on my way back home I came upon an accident in my home town. As I went past the accident I first thought it was somebody laying in the road but found out it was a motorcycle that didn't look a whole lot like one. Parts were laying around and the rider had already been taken away by ambulence. I have attached the newspaper article with the rest of the story. Interesting that the rider was ticketed. Talk about having a bad day. http://www.ksla.com/Global/story.asp?S=11236552

The bike looked like a spray painted flat black Honda but I didn't get a good look.

I could understand being cited for no motorcycle endorsement.......but reckless operation when you are trying to avoid a vehicle pulling out in front of you? I would definitely fight that one, unless the motorcyclist was speeding. At least he laid it down instead of "T boning" the vehicle, so he will live to ride another day.

The LEO's in this town are very pro motorcyclist and would have given the rider the benefit of the doubt but obviously it was clearly the riders fault. I suspect it was a case of the rider speeding and couldn't avoid the situation because of his speed. Just my opinion. The motorcycle LEO's patrol this section of highway constantly and if they saw the accident happen, then they would make the right call. Their were at least 4 MC Leo's parked at the accident and that many police cars.

Cited for no motorcycle endorsement is a no-brainer, but some of the tickets they issue for an accident (failure to maintain control or unsafe speed with regards to conditions of the road) are just BS to get more money, IMO. I got a ticket for unsafe speed when i laid my bike down (20MPH on a curve), apparently it's the "norm" to issue a citation for this.

Not really enough info for a good read.. seems like if it was high speed he would have had more injuries... Either way hate to see anyone messed up.

He is lucky regardless that he only broke his leg. That could have been a lot worse. Kids on the small bikes are hard to call. We have many that race on the main road near our house. You can hear them flying down the road. When you're young, you think that you are invincible and will never mess up on your bike (or in your car).

I hit some fresh gravel in the middle of a curve at 35mph in 2006. Like hitting ice. Went off the road and took out a road sign with my back breaking 5 ribs in 9 places along with spleen and kidney damage and a bunch of road rash and a punctured lung. They had to bring in a helicopter to rush me to the hospital. After a couple hours in the emergency room, the wheeled me to a room in ICU. The cop was waiting there and gave my son a citation to give me when I regained consciousness. It was for not having my vehicle under control. My son looked at him and said "Is that necessary? Hasn't he suffered enough?" The cop said he was just doing his job. A few weeks later during my 12 week recovery, I got a bill from the DMV for the sign I destroyed. Yeah, thanks.
