So, long story short, I tried to purchase a 2006 Fat Boy from the local dealer back in June. It was totally stock (but did include a fatty scratch on the exhaust) and the best the dealer could do was $14,750 for it. I HAD to walk away from that. So I tried the private party route and on Craigslist was almost the exact same bike. Only differences were this one had upgrades (backrest, short shots, etc.). After some back and forth I got it for $11,700 (same bike in sig). It's now been almost 4 months and I just love going back to the dealer for accessories and seeing their $14,750 still sitting on the showroom floor. I always make it a point to make sure the sales manager sees me smirking by it (the salesman was nice, the sales manager was just a cocky *****). Just had to vent.
I'd just say to him somthing like,, Hey I found another bike and now I am trying to figure what to buy with the $4500 ($3k +$1.5k stg1, =$4.5k) I saved on it.
Go in and ask him what he would give you for a trade in,since he already has one there selling for much more than you paid.I'd have to bet it is a shitload less than the 14k hes asking for the one there. If he topped $9000 Id be surprised.
