Excuse the yard mess... The pictures were taken this spring and the bike looks a little different now. I've added a sissy bar and a couple of other minor changes. Other than the frontend being stock black powdercoat that is 20 years old, the rest is all spray bomb. I'm too cheap to pay for powder when rustoleum is $4. The bike was painted for less than $20 including the primer. Yes, it flakes and peels off... adds to the charactor. I love it! It is a FUN bike but the LEO attention I draw while riding it is unbelievable... must be the combination of bike/colors...
What year is your WG, specifically what is your front axle diameter? Newer HD's use a 1" axle, older was 3/4". If the springer that you are looking at has a different axle diameter you will have to take that into consideration. Measuring from the bottom of the axle cup to the center of the axle hole, I believe that current HD springers are about 22 3/4" in length. Not sure on your WG but should be easy to measure.
One of the 'wrenches' at Zylstra HD, had a Crossbones, springer for sale this spring. Black n Chrome !!!! IMFUO, would have looked AWESOME
on Black Betty(78 FLH), but alas, no $1500 !!!!!!!!!
Plus and minus in fork length is factored from stock '49 FLH. I seem to recall that FXWG is 4 3/8" over. If you get a 4" over springer and use a 21" wheel it will be about the same. Your best bet is to get a complete set-up with wheel, axle, spacers and brake. You can end up nickeled and dimed finding pieces individually. Ask me how I know.
