Default Summer Commuting Jacket

The other morning (7am) I stepped out of the house with my leather jacket on. It was already 90 deg and over 90 percent humitity. I started my bike and by then was dripping with sweat. I shed the jacket and rode to work. The thought of commuting on the interstate with no protection scares me. I went looking for a solution and found it.

The FirstGear Hypertex Meshtex Jacket comes with a liner (which I stashed in my closet) to keep the wind and rain out. It comes with armor in the shoulders, arms and back. I pulled those out and there is still padding in the shoulders and arms. In this configuration its very light.

When sitting in the bright sun, its actually cooler with the jack on then off. It reflects the sun. If there is any breeze at all its amazingly cool inside, so you can imagine how it feels when you are moving.

I got mine at Cycle Gear but its not in their online catalog yet.

Excuse the face, I did not have a cup of coffee yet before we took the picture, trust me I am very happy.

Looks good. thanks for the info. Was 90 deg on the way home yesterday and had to pull over,
took my leather off and strapped to the rack. Will definately need to look into a mesh jaket.

I like mesh better than a tee in the summer.
Safer and cooler.

Nice looking Jacket.

I was thinking about getting a jacket like that also but after talking to the Motorclothes and Accessories manager at my local dealer she told me that HD is considering bringing the HD Switchback jacket back as a full time item this fall. The will find out for sure in July at the dealers conference. So I'm going to wait for word on that.

I have that jacket. I agree with the statement of it actually being cooler in direct sun than bare skin.

I've got them both, and while the HD Switchback is more versatile, since it covers you in even 50deg weather, the FirstGear Meshtex works much better in real hot weather. The HD has a top panel of nylon thru the top of the arms (black) and shoulder area (with the lower part removed to reveal the mesh, around the torso), while the FG is all Mesh, which is really much cooler. The other day it was over 90deg and humid and the mesh felt pretty nice while i was moving. The HD felt much warmer to me, because of the extra top material and maybe the color.

Good point. Thanks for the info. That's something I'll have to consider.
