Great find! I too would definitely find out if heat from a fire would compromise the strength of the metal. I would think it would be OK but you never know.

I really don't know why some of you are so concerned about the properties of the metals after the fire. If this thing runs and goes up the street once it will be great, maybe a local parade or two. Do you think it is ever going to be taken on a run from Kansas to California?

Well, if the pistons and cylinders have become one due to heat, it's really not going anywhere is it!
Motors can seize up in other ways besides when driven.

WOW, Wow, what a find.

'36, "Last" scoot, my Dad owned.

And whilst we are here, a li'l story, concerning, "ol' school, REAL bikers" and Dad's '36.

My family is from SoDak. In the late 20's early 30's, (think Depression AND Dust Bowl), my Dad, and his 2 best buds, (brothers), Franny and Ralph Kappenman, migrated up to Black Duck, Mn to find work, cutting pulp wood.
Feb, 1936, the 3 of them, left Black Duck on 3 Harleys. They had the 'heat housers' on them, wrapped around the front end, over the 'crash bars, followed the floorboards, and then to the back fender. The upper part was held up by a 'rod' frame. You gained access from the rear, and it had 'slits' on the side, so you could put your foot down. You had to have it on the rear wheel stand, in order to get in, kick it, and then "rock it off" the stand.
They had chains front and rear, and took 2 ol' iron coal shovels with them. REMEMBER, this was '36, before asphalt roads, big azzt snow plows, etc.
Also, if you go back and check, '36 was one of the coldest winters on record, Dad always said, THAT'S what broke the drought.

Oh, did I fergit ta menshun, temp was -14 when they pulled out. It takes 'bout 8 hrs, to drive it, NOW DAYS. Took them 2 FULL DAYS. They were fortunate to hole up, overnight, in a blacksmith/repair shop, and it had HEAT.

When they would hit a snowbank, and get stuck, grab the shovels, dig and pull 'em out.

FYI, IF you have never driven in the Midwest after a blizzard, the drift can be 8'+, and get so hard, you can drive OVER the top of it. Course, IF ya break thru, LOTS o' shubblin' !!!!!

Dad had JUST bought his, a '36.

Why, you may 'aks'. "She" eventually became, my Mom.

A few years later, he enlisted in WW2, Messenger Corp "Volunteer" (motorcycle messenger) He had 2 45's shoot or blown out, from underneath him, in Europe. He "resigned" from the Messenger thing, and went into the Tank Destroyer battalion. Yea, THAT was a "safe" move, Dad !!!

His "Last" ride, was on our 01 Ultra, 124", 6 spd. He was 93 !!!!!! RIP, Dad, Miss Ya. Typical Dad(Oldt German), grumblin', pizzin' and moanin', the whole time we were tryin' to git him on it. BUT when I tuned the radio, to WNAX, outta Yankton, guess he thought, it wasn't such a "DAMMT TOOL" after all. Rode out to where I grew up as a kid, and then to where HE grew up, as a kid, and got his FIRST Harley.

The BIG AZZT ride bell under the motor of the chop??? Dad gave it to me, when I came back from the Navy in '77. Everytime the Cap'n pulls out, the Ol' Man is taggin' along, SMILIN' the WHOLE DAMMT time, I guar-own-tee !!!

SORRY for the side bar, BUT, WOW, what a find, but MO' important,

THANX A TON, for 'reminding me'. FUN to bring it up, once in a while.

Oh, and they're NEVER, "TOO MUCH" werk, gize.
In case ya didn't notice your last trip thru the "Boutique", they aren't stockin' or sellin', '36's, none mo'.
