I love this place! A "Quick oil question" has turned into a 4 page thread. Such great and abundant amounts of information. I'm totally serious and not being a smart-***.

Ok, my 2˘...
Just did a Baker 6 speed conversion in my TC88. Baker recommends Spectro, but in the installation instructions I see that they were recommending Redline prior to Spectro. They also give a list of alternatives which will not void the warranty, Spectro-75W 140SPL, Bel Ray- 80W 90, Torco- 85W 140, and AMSOIL-75W 90 (on the phone they told me AMSOIL 75W 140 I believe). That is the list out of the installation instructions and you can see that Spectro was an alternative before they changed mind on which they recommend. Thats for the tranny. Since they are the experts, I take their word for it other than realizing that which they recommend may be for reasons other than just quality.

As for the engine, I've read that AMSOIL is very adequate. I don't use syn in the crank case because the previous owner was runnin HD dino, and I've read that changing from dino to synthetic can cause seals to shrink.

And for the primary, I've read that synthetic isn't necessary because there isn't as much heat to deal with, just be sure to use good quality oil for lubrication.

AMSOIL is used widely, and since Baker says it won't void their warranty, I'd have to believe that it is of good quality.

I rode yesterday after I put the Red Line Shockproof Heavy Gear Oil,in the tranny for about 50 or 60 miles and to be honest I cannot tell a bit of difference between the Amsoil gear oil and the Shockproof Heavy Gear Oil!

I have a question would the Red Line 75W80 GL-4 (70W80) gear oil for V-Twin primary chain cases be to heavy?
