Default Question about oils

The stealer in Frederick told me that I should use the same synthetic oil in the motor, trans and primary. Sound right to you guys?

yes, thats right. I think some people are using different vascosity oil for the the tranny and primary only if its natural oil. But synthetic the dealer says to use the same for all 3. Matter of fact I just changed my fluids yesterday. Paid for the harley synthetic. Next time I am gonna save some cash and go with Amsoil.

Guys:.the 20w50 motor oil will work in the trans...but a 75w90 gear oil is better and the same price. It will shear a lot less and last longer........lots of research. The amsoil MC 20w50 is fine for the engine & primary but the severe gear 75w90 is the best for the trans and will make it shift smoother & quieter. I use the redline shockproof heavy gear oil in my trans.....check it at www.redlineoil.com. JMHO

I use BelRay in my transmissions.....have for years. Smoother and quieter shifting. As for the synthetic, I use Mobil 1 15w-50. Readily available if you need a top=off on the road, and it is GOOD STUFF. The best conventional oil is not as good as the worst synthetic. I have lots of friends that use the Mobil 1, and some are racers and professional HD mechanics.......

I've got HD Syn3 in all, but not real happy with it and will change on my next fluid change.

No need to mince words. Go with the Mobile one v-twin or redline 20-50, mobile one synthetic 75W90 or the redline Shockproof heavy in the tranny and you just can't go wrong. The Formula + works very well in the primary and keeps a good clutch feel.
